In a tragic incident, a married woman has committed suicide over unable to bear harassment of her husband demanding extra dowry in Anantapur district.

Going into details, a woman by name Kavitha, who belongs to Marthadu village in Garladinne mandal got married to Krishna of Chandana Lakshimpalli village in Yadiki mandal four years ago.

At the time of the wedding, Rs 2 lakh cash, 15 tolas of gold, and two cents of land at Pamidi were given as the dowry. Krishna works as a constable at Peddvaduguru police station. The couple has a three-year-old son and 14-month-old daughter.

As life was moving smoothly, Krishna started to harass her demanding to bring extra dowry and several times Kavitha went to her parent's house and brought the money.

But, Krishna continued to pressure her to bring more and more dowry. The family members tried to settle the issue with the help of village elders, but there was no change in his behaviour.

Over unable to tolerate the harassments, Kavitha committed suicide by hanging herself when everyone in the house was sleeping. Upon receiving the complaint from the deceased's father, the police have registered a case, took Krishna into their custody and are investigating further.
