Kakinada: Demanding a permanent solution to the drinking water and drainage problem in the city, a massive dharna was staged under the auspices of the CPI in front of Kakinada Municipal Corporation here on Tuesday.

Sporting empty pots, hundreds of women reached from Dairy Farm Centre to the corporation office. They raised slogans against the Corporation for not supplying drinking water regularly. The agitation continued for about three hours. The agitators raised slogans prompting the Commissioner to meet the protesters over the issue.

CPI district secretary Tatipaka Madhu said that Kakinada Smart City is facing severe water crisis for the past one week and the administration had failed in resolving the problem. He said that rain and dirty water was being supplied for one week.

He urged the government provide fresh water besides addressing drainage problem. AITUC district secretary T Prasad, Lovaratnam, Bhasha and others were present.
