Hyderabad: Xilinx, Inc, a US-based semi-conductor maker, on Thursday expanding its presence in India, opened a research and development centre in Hyderabad.

Consolidating its office space in the city, the company came with this facility in Hitec City, which is spread across four lakh sft, and a seating capacity of 2,000.

Without revealing financial costs, Xilinx said, the multi-million-dollar engineering facility, the largest outside its corporate headquarters in San Jose, California, will drive continued advancements in the company's hardware and software products including the new adaptive compute acceleration platform (ACAP) devices and Vitis Unified Software Platform.

Globally Xilinx has 5,000 employees, of which, more than 800 hardware and software engineers are in the Hyderabad office.

"The new facility will help drive Xilinx's next phase of regional growth with plans to double the headcount in India within the coming years.

We have doubled our workforce in less than five years, in 2006, Xilinx was a 60-member team here. Going ahead, our plan is to increase the team strength by ten-fold over 10 years," said Victor Peng, President and Chief Executive Officer, Xilinx.

Replying to a query, he said, "Due to the ongoing tension between US and China, Xilinx will not be able to meet its revenue growth target. Hence, the plan to double our workforce here, totally depends upon growth in our business."

Xilinx reported a revenue of $3.06 billion in FY19, with 24 per cent annual growth.
