The award-winning American actor and Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, have reportedly been diagnosed with COVID-19 while filming in Australia. The actor is said to be working on the Gold Coast filming Baz Luhrmann's untitled production about Elvis Presley.

After being diagnosed with the deadly virus, Hanks on Thursday took to the Twitter and left a message stating "a bit tired, like we had colds they arranged to be tested for the virus and had been found to be positive".

"Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the coronavirus, and were found to be positive, " the actor added.

"Well, now. What to do next? The medical officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks' will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?"

On the other hand, the production department has sent a mail on Thursday morning to cast and crew advising them to stay away from set after Tom Hanks tested positive for the virus.

The shooting of Luhrmann film is scheduled to begin on Monday. However, the US production company Warner Bros, said it was "taking precautions" to protect its employees no matter the delay in filming.
