A week before the release of 'Ponmagal Vandhal' on the Net platform, the buzz around OTT versus theatres seems to be increasing. News is that there is a debate underway in a production house- Tirupati Brothers – about the fate of its delayed venture 'Idam Porul Yaeval' which features Vijay Sethupathi, Vishnu Vishal, Nanditha and Aishwarya Rajesh.
Since the promoter of this banner, director N Lingusamy, is facing huge financial issues, the film has remained stuck along for over two years. The famed helmsman has also been involved with a few other projects which are yet to see the light of the day.
There are two sides of the same coin, as a popular idiom goes. It applies very well to the state of affairs in the film industry too. In this case, it has set off a debate whether the OTT platforms would emerge as a messiah and save the small production houses from certain ruin by buying out their delayed and stuck ventures.
Also, it is being speculated that since new films would not want to use the immediate release window, post-lockdown, such long-in-production flicks could be given preference. All we have to do is wait and watch, as the drama unfolds in a few days.
