The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the National Eligibility Test (NET) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The UGC NET exam is held twice a year by NTA in June and December. The UGC NET exam consists of two papers: Paper – I, assesses the candidate's teaching/research ability; while Paper-II is based on the subject selected by the candidate.

The UGC NET is held in a single sitting without any break between Paper-I and Paper-II.

UGC NET Paper-I
The UGC NET Paper-I exam is generic and aims to assess the teaching/research aptitude of candidates. It is primarily designed to examine the reasoning ability, understanding, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidates. There are no negative marks for wrong answers. The UGC NET Paper-I consists of 50 objective type questions (MCQs), and all questions are mandatory.

Preparation Tips for UGC NET Paper-I
1. Make a study plan: Make a study timetable for all critical sections of the question paper and set a goal for each day.
2. Clarify the concepts: the syllabus given by the UGC is essential, and candidates are recommended to review it and understand the critical concepts and topics.
3. Solve maximum questions: Use the question last year question paper and the simulated test to practice. It will help you improve your speed and accuracy.
4. Improve your weak areas: once you try the simulated test and documents from the previous year, you will know about your weak areas. Work on them, reread them and try to solve similar questions.
5. Time management: This is the most crucial aspect of the exam. You need to solve 150 questions in three hours. The practise papers will help you discover how to use your time efficiently during the exam.
