Mysuru: A whopping 1,255 corona warriors in Mysuru district have been tested positive for Covid-19 19 so far. They form 2.5 percent of total number of people tested positive for Covid-19 in Mysuru district so far. Those corona warriors include 644 Mysuru city police personnel, 486 healthcare workers including doctors and nurses, and 126 Mysuru city corporation employees.
And among them as many as 16 corona warriors including nine healthcare workers, five paurakarmikas and two police personnel died due to Covid-19.
Among 644 Mysuru city police personnel including 35 women, who were tested positive for Covid-19 during their line of duty, 634 including Mysuru City Police Commissioner Dr Chandraguptha, DCP Dr A N Prakash Gowda, ACP CAR, Veeranna H V, ACP Devaraja subdivision, Shashidhar, ACP Narasimharaja sub division P S Shivashankar have been cured and discharged. T Ravinayaka (36), assistant police constable of City Armed Reserve (CAR) police and Sathish S (56), head constable at Lashkar Police station, have died. On Monday, Jalalakshmipuram police station police inspector was tested positive for Covid-19.
Among police personnel tested positive for Covid-19, as many as 407 are City Civil and City Armed Reserve (CAR) police personnel, 134 are the personnel of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), three are from police control room and 24 of them are mounted cops. And 46 personnel including trainees at Karnataka Police Academy, four personnel including trainees from Police Training School, eight personnel of Anti-Corruption Bureau, seven Ministerial staff, seven railway police personnel, three KSISF personnel at Mysuru airport are also tested positive for Covid-19.
Besides monitoring implementation of Covid guidelines strictly, the Mysuru city police are even creating awareness on Covid-19 by holding public meetings and others. They even recently distributed free masks for morning walkers at a few places in the city and created awareness. And so far, they have collected penalty of over Rs 41 lakh from 17,961 people who have not worn masks in Mysuru city.
Karnataka State DGP Praveen Sood has sought for martyr status to policemen who have died due to Covid-19 19 during line of duty, long ago. The family members of corona warriors have welcomed the proposal of Union government to introduce new quota and to reserve five Central pool MBBS/BDS seats for children of Covid warriors for the year 2020-2021, honouring the sacrifice of Covid warriors.
On Monday, Mysuru Mayor Tasleem and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Gurudutt Hegde distributed Rs 30 lakh ex gratia each for the family of five employees of MCC who have died due to Covid-19 including four sanitation workers including S J Krishnamma, Vobamma V Bannaari and Mahadeva, and MCC driver Shashikumar.
In Mysuru district so far, 50,127 people are tested positive for Covid-19 and 991 people have died and 626 cases are active. On Monday, 104 people were tested positive for Covid-19 and two people have died in Mysuru district.
