Aakash Chandani: The Creator, Fighter & The Perfectionist
Read, How he drew his own life and made a niche for himself in the Art of Inking
When you see this well built, 30 years, young Ink artist, he just seems to be like any young sassy guy with tattoos all over his body, But Aakash Chandani Lovingly called as Inkman, has faced toughest time at such a young age, before getting name and fame. Success wasn't served on a platter to this extremely talented artist.
"Coming from a humble background life wasn't easy since childhood", says Aakash. But since a very young age he was passionate about art. Canvas and colour were his only love, so much so that, at the age of 10 he walked many kilometres to take part in a Painting competition and won it too from among 300 children. This small win was huge for a child of his age and gave him a boost to follow his passion. But again life was going to give him another jolt, His father, the sole bread earner for the family, passed away when Aakash was 14, leaving behind with him a younger sister and homemaker mother.
The responsibilities of the family came on his young shoulders. Aakash recalls, " Those were the days life taught me toughest lessons, I left behind my passion and started working as street vendor, selling clothes on Street market in Bhopal, But I always felt that I do not belong here, my destination is somewhere else" When he grew up along with his regular work he started doing temporary tattoos, just to follow his passion for art. Although people appreciated his tattoos a lot of life was still testing him.
Then after a suggestion from few of his customers to get into permanent Tattoo art, He visited Delhi few times to and learned the art of permanent tattoos just for 4 days by a well-trained tattoo artist from Delhi.
" That's the only formal training in Permanent tattoos I got" smiles the young man " But I kept learning the new forms and techniques from online videos available on the internet and social media, and attended the seminar of world-renowned artists, like Steve Butcher, who also happened to be his ideal"
Initially he opened up his tattoo studio in a rented place and worked from there for few years and kept working hard towards excellence But when you see him at his work in his renowned tattoo studio ' Skin Machine Tattoo Studio' in a Posh Area 'Arera Colony' of Bhopal you will get to know the reason behind his success, the patience and level of concentration he works with and his expertise is clearly shown in the finesse of his work. Sometimes the detailing in a tattoo is to such extent that this perfectionist works for 12 hours at a stretch in a session, which is commendable.
The name Skin Machine itself has an inspirational story behind it, He informs," Back then when I learnt Permanent tattoo just for four days, I didn't have someone on whom I could try on, so I started practising on my own skin, in a way my skin became my support system a machine itself, so Skin Machine was born"
Aakash Recalls few interesting things from his struggling days, he went to attend 2016 Pune tattoo convention with his first student Naina, after that they became great friends and later Aakash got married to Naina." Naina is my greatest support and Best friend" adds Aakash. In 2017 He won Best colour Tattoo and Best Cover-up tattoo award in Pune Tattoo convention and won awards in Delhi Tattoo Convention as well.
Gradually success and fame happened, Aakash gives lots of credit to Social Media as well for his success, He says " Social media supported me a lot, most of my work got spread through social media, and people started recognizing me and got respect for my work"
People from various parts of India, including the celebrities, Singers players come to Aakash to get inked, and every day he adds up a new page to his success story
In Aakash Chandani's own word " Hunar toh sab mein hota hai, kisi ka chhup jata hai, kisi ka chhap jata hai"
