The dive site is a sloping area with black sand that goes down quite deep. However, most divers who take pictures like to stay in the shallower parts, above 20 metres. This way, you can spend more time underwater looking for all the interesting little animals.

But the water is colder than other places in Bali. Because of this, divers usually wear thicker wetsuits to stay warm. You must be lucky to see mola-mola. The USAT Liberty was a big American ship that was sunk by a Japanese submarine during World War II. Now, it is one of the easiest shipwrecks in the world for divers to explore. You can find it in a place called Tulamben in Bali. After it sank, the ship was pulled onto a beach.

Later, when a volcano erupted in the 1960s, it pushed the ship back into the water, but still very close to the shore. The water here has a beach with dark pebbles. Even new divers can explore this shipwreck because the top of it is only 5 metres. More experienced divers can go deeper to see the bottom of the ship, which is 28 metres.

The Liberty isn’t just great for people who like exploring old ships. It is also full of interesting sea creatures. You might see strange fish like ghost pipefish or leaf scorpionfish. Sometimes, a group of jackfish swims in circles above the wreck.

If you like waking up early, try diving at sunrise to see big, funny-looking fish called Bumphead parrotfish before they swim away for the day.
