Prajwal Revanna to be shifted to Hindalga jail after mobile phone discovery
In Short
Alok Kumar, Director General of Police of the Department of Prisons and Correctional Services, has reportedly ordered the transfer. An official email has been sent to the authorities at Hindalga jail, and its chief superintendent has been informed.

Bengaluru: Former MP Prajwal Revanna, who is serving a life sentence, is set to be transferred from Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison to Hindalga Central Jail in Belagavi following the discovery of a mobile phone and other items in his prison cell.
Alok Kumar, Director General of Police of the Department of Prisons and Correctional Services, has reportedly ordered the transfer. An official email has been sent to the authorities at Hindalga jail, and its chief superintendent has been informed. Prison officials have been instructed to make the necessary arrangements, with the transfer likely to take place under escort at short notice.
The decision comes after a Central Crime Branch (CCB) operation at Parappana Agrahara prison on August 11. The raid was conducted under the leadership of DCP Haribabu and Imam Khasim. During the search, officials reportedly recovered a mobile phone from the cell occupied by Revanna, along with a charger, a blue notebook and a pen drive.
The mobile phone was reportedly found to contain applications including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Netflix and Prime Video. The device was password-protected. Forensic examination is also said to have detected several video files on the phone.
Photographs allegedly showing Revanna speaking on a mobile phone also emerged, raising questions about security arrangements inside the prison. Following the recovery, the prison department initiated an inquiry into how the prohibited items had reached the cell. A team led by DIG Jinendra Khanagavi was constituted to investigate possible lapses by prison officials.
Alok Kumar had directed the team to examine all aspects of the incident and submit a report. The proposed transfer marks a further development in the case, which has drawn attention to security and monitoring measures at the Bengaluru prison.
