CPI State leader Tatipaka Madhu addressing the municipal sanitation staff in Rajamahendravaram on Friday
Rajamahendravaram: CPI State executive committee member Tatipaka Madhu has alleged that sanitation workers and municipal contract and outsourcing employees are facing several problems despite their continued efforts to maintain public health and keep towns clean.
Addressing municipal workers in wards 8, 9 and 10 here on Friday morning, Madhu announced that the CPI would organise a ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ programme on October 26 to demand the construction of a dedicated residential colony for municipal workers and distribution of house sites to them. He called upon workers, their families and the urban poor to participate in the programme.
Madhu said many municipal employees who had been serving local bodies for years did not own houses and were forced to live in rented accommodation and cramped houses. He demanded that the government develop special colonies for municipal workers and provide eligible employees with house sites and assistance for constructing houses.
He also urged the government to allot house sites to poor families living in urban areas and extend financial assistance for building permanent houses. Every poor family should have access to decent housing, he said. Raising employment-related concerns, Madhu demanded job security for contract and outsourcing workers who had been working in municipal departments for several years. He called for the regularisation of eligible employees, revision of minimum wages and implementation of equal pay for equal work.
