Sting Operation row: HDK’s residence figures in probe as police reveal details
Bengaluru: The controversy surrounding the alleged sting operation against former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken a fresh turn, with Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh for the first time referring to Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s residence while explaining the investigation.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, the Police Commissioner said a mobile phone had been exchanged at Kumaraswamy’s residence in connection with the case. He also stated that Ritesh Pandey was present at the Union Minister’s residence and that the video was uploaded on the instructions of Prajwal Prasad.
According to the Commissioner, money was transferred to Ritesh and Prajwal Prasad. The revelations have triggered fresh political speculation, particularly after the investigation appeared to have reached a conclusion following Siddaramaiah receiving a clean chit. The Central Crime Branch (CCB) reportedly traced the mobile phone allegedly used to upload the video through a series of transactions. Ritesh Pandey had purchased the handset in Delhi on September 26, but the device was reportedly used to upload the video without a SIM card.
During questioning, Ritesh allegedly told investigators that he had purchased the phone on the instructions of Prajwal Prasad. He also reportedly stated that he was asked to visit the Union Minister’s residence, where the phone was handed over. Police are now verifying Ritesh’s statement and examining the money transfers and other evidence. The CCB has issued a notice to Prajwal Prasad to appear for questioning.
Investigators are likely to consider examining Kumaraswamy’s residence after recording Prajwal’s statement. Police are yet to establish the complete sequence of events and the alleged involvement of different individuals.
