Malkajgiri: GHMC Deputy Commissioner K Venugopal warned that stringent action would be taken against those business establishments which use plastic covers and bags with less than 50 microns thickness.

He was speaking at a programme held to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi at Gandhi Park here on Wednesday. The Deputy Commissioner garlanded Gandhi statue and paid tributes.

Later, speaking to local businessmen, he created awareness on the plastic ban and warned them that stringent action would be taken against business establishments if they violated norms.

On the occasion, local businessmen took oath not to use plastic in their premises. Deputy Commissioner, later, participated in cleaning of a vacant plot in Dayanand Nagar along with sanitation staff. Sanitation supervisor Ravinder Reddy, Veena, sanitation staff and colony residents took part in the program.
