Mehdipatnam: Women activists Jasveen Jairath, Sarah Mathews and others were taken into custody for protesting against the denial of permission for a programme which was to be addressed by Kanhaiya Kumar on Monday.

The public meeting was planned at Crystal Garden in Mehdipatnam by left organisations and some Urdu dailies. The protesters were taken to Begum Bazar police station, while some male activists were sent to Narayanaguda police station.

The meeting was to be addressed by Kanhaiya Kumar, the former president of JNU, Dr K Narayana, the National Secretary of CPI, Chada Venkat Reddy, the Telangana State Secretary of CPI, Syed Azeez Pasha, a former CPI MP, Amer Ali Khan, the news editor of Siasat, Dr Aslam Khan, deputy editor of Munsif Urdu Daily, Ali Masqati, the vice-president of T-TDP, Mushtaq Malik, the JAC convenor and president of Tahreek Muslim Shabban, Osman Bin Mohammed Al Hajri, who contested in Assembly elections in Karwan on behalf of INC, Mohammed Ghouse, the Congress candidate in Charminar Assembly elections, Amjadullah Khan, the spokesperson MBT, and several other leaders.
