Students to make one lakh Gobbemmalu with cow dung tomorrow

Hyderabad: Sarojini Naidu Vanitha Maha Vidyalaya College is conducting a event to make one lakh Gobbemmalu (Cow dung balls) with different vegetable seeds in one day at Jiyagudda Goshala on December 20 from 5 am to 4 pm.

Addressing media persons here, Mahesh Agarwal, Honorary President of Telangana Goshala Federation, and A Swapna, Associate Professor in Telugu and NSS Co-ordinator of College, said that nearly 300 NSS volunteers would be participating in the programme. "We are conducting the programme for the first time in India with 100 volunteers. We are going to make 1,00,000(1 lakh) Gobbemmalu in one day .We are also planning to enter our name in Guinness world record for maximum preparation of Cow dung balls in a single day by large number of participants," they said.

They also said the main purpose of the event was to save cows from illegal slaughter and promote organic farming and use of natural and cow products. They added that the cows did not need humans help, instead the humans need their help for their survival. "The cow can sustain by its own and can make our society organic with no harmful diseases and chemical products. It gives us wealth. And not to forgot about our cultural revivals," they said.

They added that they would donate the money which they got from the event to Goshalas for the welfare of cows and to save the cows which are struggling for self sustainability. Gobbemmalu are used during Sankranthi festival, by using the Gobbemmalu virus effect entering into the houses can be stopped. Gobbemmalu are the balls made of cow dung which are decorated with turmeric powder (pasupu), red vermion powder (Kumkuma), flowers and with different types of grains. These gobbemmalu are then dried and used as fuel.
