On the occasion of International Environment Day on June 5, GHMC would organise several programmes related to Haritha Haram, water harvesting pits and plastic bags ban. He said 200 tonnes of plastic waste was collected as part of GHMC initiative to collect plastic waste in the city. He ordered the officials to take up such initiatives on regular basis.

2 lakh saplings to be planted in 150 wards

Dana Kishore said that a target of planting at least 2 lakh saplings in 150 wards of the city was set for the year as part of Haritha Haram program. He instructed the zonal commissioners to prepare a booklet with details of road length in each ward, vacant places, government and public enterprises, private company offices, colony welfare associations, distribution of saplings, schedule for plantation and other details. Dana Kishore suggested to raise nurseries in metro water works offices and near water tanks. He instructed the officials to raise nurseries in metro board office at Sahebnagar as it has 40 acres of vacant land.

Demolish crumbling building, officials told

Reviewing the arrangements to meet the approaching rainy season, Dana Kishore indicated that a decision may be taken to ban digging for cellars from June first or second week. He also instructed the officials to issue notice to the owners of old and dilapidated buildings to demolish the buildings.

Construction of 6,000 manholes parallel to the main roads has been completed, he said. The commissioner said that a special app has been designed for the reassessment of buildings and properties which pay property tax between Rs 12,000 and Rs 1 lakh.

Utmost importance to upkeep of streetlights

Reviewing the performance of electricity wing, Dana Kishore instructed the officials to give utmost priority to the resolution of complaints related to street light maintenance. As many as 4,25,357 LED bulbs were fitted in place of traditional bulbs and 26,581 CCMS units established to review the maintenance of streetlights. As per agreement, 98 per cent of streetlights should be in working condition but at present only 97 per cent of lights are in working condition, he noted.

He ordered electricity officials to conduct a study on streetlights maintenance along with third-party inspections and submit a report. Utmost priority needs to be given for complaints resolution, he said.

Of total 88,315 complaints received so far from the commencement of LED project, 87,344 complaints have been resolved but 944 complaints remain pending, he said. People can contact toll-free number 1800-180-3580 for any complaints related to streetlights maintenance, the Commissioner added.
