Crime rate in Telangana 2020: Most salient among achievements was decline in crimes against women
Hyderabad: The Telangana DGP on Wednesday, presenting a report card on the annual performance of the State police, took pride in various initiatives succeeding in bringing down the overall crime rate in the State.
A beaming Mahender Reddy noted, "Murders have decreased by 8.59%, property crime fell by 21%, dacoity by 28%, robberies by 33% and burglaries 17%, ordinary thefts 22%, chain snatching 46%. Also the crimes against women have reduced by 1.92% while white collar offences have reduced by 42% and the road accidents were reduced to 14% while deaths due to accidents have come down by 9% and injuries to the persons have reduced by 17%."
The DGP further added, "The emergency response management system is able to deliver services in 4-8 minutes of average time after receiving calls from 100 and 112. He also said that the social media presence of the police stations has been increased to give more access to the people for availing services."
"Moreover, the State of Telangana did not witness any major law and order problem and it was possible only because of the strict law and order enforcement by the police. Apart from it, the COVID has also impacted a lot on policing because the way citizens started trusting police in cases of emergencies proves the point that police was successful in gaining the trust of citizens and helping them in distress. The police also played a vital role during lockdown in shifting pregnant women to hospitals, shifting patients, handing over groceries at doorstep etc…." explained the DGP.
Mahender Reddy stated, "The rate of conviction in 2020 has been tremendous since the formation of Telangana because in this year we were able to get 4 convictions. With all the good work done by us we have received 6 International awards, 6 national awards, 35 awards by independent organizations at national level and 3 awards at state level."
