Parents aghast at lack of hygiene at gurukul
For the parents of nearly 30 students of Telangana Minority Residential School, Asifnagar, Monday was filled with anxiety, anger, helplessness and angst. As soon as the news of the students complaining of stomach ache spread, parents rushed to the Niloufer Hospital.

Mohd Ghalib, parent of 11-year-old Riyaz, said, "I was at work when I got a call from the school about my son complaining of stomach ache and vomiting. My wife and I rushed to the hospital to see 32 more kids who were facing the same problem. It was after a long time that doctors said that the children were fine. The agony we went through is unexplainable."
It is said that the students suffered from food poisoning and complained of vomiting and diarrhea. Speaking to the Hans India here on Monday Dr Murali Krishna, superintendent of Niloufer Hospital, said, "The children are kept under observation for the next 24 hours and are now out of danger.
The children are aged between 10 and 12 years. They started showing symptoms by 7.45 am and some were rushed here by 12:30 pm. The students were admitted in the special ESR Ward with similar symptoms. Immediately, antibiotics were started and the kids are kept under observation until next 24 hours."
The school staff informed that the children had lunch in the afternoon and snacks at 4 pm, which was followed by dinner. Doctors said that an investigation was on and they would be able to say anything only after the reports are available.
Parents are blaming the school management for not maintaining hygiene. They demanded necessary action against the school management. Mohd Yusuf, parent of 10-year-old Mohd Yasin, deplored," My son started feeling uneasy in the morning and was feeling nauseous and was having a stomach ache. We got a call from our school where they informed us about the situation and asked us to visit Niloufer Hospital.
As per our kids, they had dinner a night before this due to which some of the kids fell sick." Mohd Haji, father of Mohd Shoaib,11, had this to say: "My son called me from his teacher's mobile and said he was having stomach aches and diarrhea.
The school staff asked us to come to the hospital. We are told the kids are fine and will be discharged soon. I learned from other parents that the reason for the food poisoning could be food or water. The school staff should have taken precautions as there are many such cases during monsoon."
