Plant to recycle demolition, construction waste soon
Building construction and demolished wastes are posing a huge challenge to the civic body to properly dispose them of issue in the Greater Hyderabad limits.
Jeedimetla: Building construction and demolished wastes are posing a huge challenge to the civic body to properly dispose them of issue in the Greater Hyderabad limits. To overcome the pestering problem, GHMC has set up a recycling plant at Jeedimetla, which will go on trial runs soon. GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore inspected the recycling plant on Tuesday.
According to the Commissioner, the plant is capable of recycling 500 metric tonnes of construction waste per day at a rate of 50 metric tonnes an hour. He said measures would be taken to open the construction and demolition debris (C&D) plant shortly after the successful trial runs. Hyderabad is the fourth city in the country to set up such a plant as part of the Central Government Building Construction Waste Management Act -2016.
The GHMC is in the processing collecting building waste materials and setting up special plants for disposal of bricks, sand and other construction materials to recycle. Currently, there are C&D plants in Delhi, Ahmedabad and Nagpur.
There is at least 600 metric tonnes of building waste that is discarded every day in the city. The waste is callously dumped in sewers, tanks and ponds. The Commissioner informed GHMC will enter into an agreement with Ramky Group for the construction of another recycling plant in Fathullaguda. The Collectors of Rangareddy, Medchal and Sangareddy districts agreed to the GHMC plea to allocate adequate area to set up three more recycling plants, added Dana Kishore.
