Habsiguda: Residents of VV Nagar colony located in Habsiguda Street No. 8 have been staging protests for the last 14 days opposing Narayana Olympiad School in their colony. The schools building is built against norms and has no fire safety, locals alleged.

Speaking to media during their protest, colony residents Shanti Kumar said that they questioned the school administration in 2017 when the construction of the building was started but there was no response from them. A complaint was given to the Mayor not to allow the school in their colony in the year 2017, he said. They also gave a representation to the district collector and DEO in this regard in 2018, he said.

Badri Reddy, another colony resident, questioned the officials concerned on how permission was given to the school in the residential area. He said that there was response from public representatives and officials despite their protest for the last 14 years. He expressed his concerns that the colony has 25 feet road, which is already congested, and residents may face a lot of inconvenience if a school with about 2,000 students is established in their colony.

The house owner has misled the residents that he is constructing a residential building but has leased it to the school, he said. The colony with 300 houses may face severe inconvenience if the school starts, he lamented.

Another resident Sainath said that the school is making preparations to start classes in two days and there has been no response from the officials. He warned the colony residents would put barricades on the road if the school attempts to start classes. To prevent the school from starting classes, the residents would sit in relay hunger strike before the school, he warned. Several colony residents, including women, participated in the protest.
