As part of the IANCON 2019, the 27th Annual Conference of the Indian Academy of Neurology (IAN), a 5-km marathon called ‘Run for a healthy brain’ was recently organised on October 5 in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: As part of the IANCON 2019, the 27th Annual Conference of the Indian Academy of Neurology (IAN), a 5-km marathon called 'Run for a healthy brain' was recently organised on October 5 in Hyderabad.

The neurology awareness initiative was conducted by the IAN runners' group and was supported by the Mindvision division of Lupin Ltd. Over 300 Neurologist, from across the country participated in the event, which commenced at the Hotel Novotel and HICC Complex, near Hi-Tec City, Hyderabad.

The event was flagged off by noted movie director S SRajamouli, music director M M Keeravani, managing director of KIMS Hospitals group, Dr B Bhaskar Rao, and organizing chairman of IANCON 2019, Dr Mohandas Surath, Also present were Dr SitaJayalakshmi, organizing secretary of IANCON 2019.

As per statistics, the average prevalence rate of common neurological disorders in India is 2394 and ranges from 967 to 4070/100000 population with higher prevalence rate in rural compared to urban population.

IANCON and the marathon are thus an attempt to increase awareness on neurological disorders such as epilepsy, brain stroke, stress related head ache and the benefits of physical activity in preventing these and managing the symptoms. The theme for the run was colors of freedom.
