Vidyanagar: BC leader R Krishnaiah said many college students belonging to BC, SC, ST and minority community have been discontinuing their education as they fail to get hostel facility. He spoke to the media at BC Bhavan after writing a letter to CM KCR on this regard.

Krishnaiah said that about 14 lakh college students from BC, SC, ST and minority are studying in 6,000 colleges, of which only 53,000 students are accommodated: 27,000 in 270 BC hostels, 16,000 in 127 SC hostels and 10,000 in ST hostels. Although there are about 14 lakh eligible candidates who require hostel accommodation, the government should at least provide accommodation to 1 lakh students, he said.

Krishnaiah said that the CM KCR has provided free meals and accommodation to about 5 lakh school students but due to lack of hostel facilities for college going students, they are facing many inconveniencies, he said. Krishnaiah stressed on the need for more residential colleges in the state to meet the increasing demand. In view of increasing migration of BCs to cities, more residential colleges need to be built to meet the demand, Krishnaiah opined.
