Tribal youth summits highest mountain
A tribal man from Thakkallapalli Thanda in Yacharam mandal, Rangareddy district, has caused a reason for celebration in Telangana when he reached the summit of Mt Everest in the early hours of May 22.

Amgoth Tukaram, a 21-year-old mountaineer, reached the summit 30 minutes after another Telangana mountaineer, Thiurpati Reddy. Both young mountaineers are said to be supported by Transcend Adventures Mountaineering and Trekking Services.Tukaram's journey to the peak began on April 6 and he unfurled the tri-color flag at the summit in a display of patriotism.
Tukaram, who is currently pursuing a degree in a private college in Hyderabad, is the youngest of 5 siblings. His father and mother are both farmers and he hails from a low-income family. Yet, this has never deterred the young mountaineer.
After completing his primary education in tribal gurukul schools, he went on to become a cadet of NCC (National Cadet Corps). He was a national player for traditional Indian sports like Langdi and Mallakhamb; and he is also a recipient of District level Best Sportsman Award. Recognising his talent, NCC selected him to train at the Jawaharlal Nehru Mountaineering Institute, Uttarkhashi.
After his training at the institute, Tukaram went on to scale many peaks from 2015 such as Mt Rudugaira in Garwhal Himalayas, Mt Stok Kangri in Ladhak, Mt Norbu in Manali and Bhagiratha peak in Gangotri Glacier.
The wild-spirited youngster also scaled Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa at 19 years of age, where he unfurled an 18-meter long national flag, creating a record. Amgoth undertook this expedition to create awareness on helmet safety and was honored by President Ramnath Kovind at Parliament house in July last year for his efforts.
Tukaram's elder brother, Venkatesh Amgoth, spoke to The Hans India on his brother's achievements. "It was my brother's dream to scale Mt Everest since 3 years but because of insufficient funds, he had to wait" says Venkatesh, "We come from a poor family so he had to seek financial help from outside," he finished.
Tukaram was supported in his dream by many retired IAS and IPS officers, claims his brother. TS REDCO MD Sudhakar Rao is among many who supported the tribal youngster. Currently, the mountaineer is in the middle of his descent from the highest peak in the world.
