The Telangana Prohibition and Excise Department on Monday said that the applicants who bagged licenses of 26 liquor shops in Secunderabad area in the tender process, finalised on October 18, have remitted Rs 7.1 crore to the government as one-eighth of the installment.

Secunderabad: The Telangana Prohibition and Excise Department on Monday said that the applicants who bagged licenses of 26 liquor shops in Secunderabad area in the tender process, finalised on October 18, have remitted Rs 7.1 crore to the government as one-eighth of the installment.

In the press statement released by the department, it warned that the licenses would not be issued if the liquor shops are located within 100 meters of temples, schools and hospitals. It stated vigilance would be kept in place on the sale of ganja and other intoxicants at shops. Information regarding this should be given to the department's station officer.

The release stated that on October 21, a person was caught in Alwal while transporting 2.5 kg ganja. The department warned that legal action would be taken against those who resort to such illegal activities. The release appealed to youngsters not to fall prey to vices like taking ganja and spoiling their bright future.
