Khammam: A Dalit woman (40) attempted suicide on Thursday by consuming pesticide-laced drink at Vadlagudem village in the district, alleging that revenue officials are harassing her over land issue. She was identified as Dola Tirupathamma.

The police rushed her to government hospital in Dammapet and on the advice of doctors, Tirupathamma was shifted to headquarters hospital in Khammam for better treatment. According to information, Tirupathamma has been cultivating a piece of land for many years in Vadlagudem village. But the revenue officials of Dammapet issued notices to some farmers including Tirupathamma to vacate from the government lands.

Two days ago, Tirupathamma and few others prevented the revenue officials including MRO from conducting a survey in those lands. Later, MRO lodged a complaint in Dammapet police station against Tirupathamma and others mentioning that he was obstructed from carrying out his duties. She alleged that the MRO was trying to take her land and give to other caste people.

Coming to know about that a complaint lodged against her, she took extreme step. Revenue officials have stated survey was taken up in the government land on the directions of the High Court. The purpose of the survey was to provide 30 acres land to farmers, who lost their lands in forest expansion few years ago in Jalavagu village.
