Vijayawada: The Durga temple administration is contemplating to laying mesh on Indrakeeladri hill to check the falling of boulders and rocks on the ghat road. The temple administration has appointed a three-member committee to prepare a plan and give guidelines for laying the mesh, with height of 25 metres. Besides, drain will be constructed above the Indrakeeladri hillock to drain the rainwater.
The committee is expected to submit its report very soon to the temple administration on laying the mesh. During the rainy season, boulders and rocks were crashing on the ghat road creating panic among the devotees, temple staff who pass along the hillock. Earlier, the temple administration has arranged huge mesh to check the boulders falling to the ground. For the last few years, many times the rocks and boulders fell on the ghat road creating panic among the devotees and temple staff. But the existing mesh could not resist the rocks from falling to the ghat road. Keeping in view of the need for laying new mesh, the temple administration formed a committee, which visited the temple three weeks ago and inspected the ghat road and hillock.
A senior officer of the engineering department, Temple administration, said that the committee members Prof Siva Kumar Babu, Indian Institute of Science (IIS), Bengaluru, Prof MR Madhav, retired professor of IIT, Kanpur and R Kondala Rao, advisor to Endowments department are expected to submit the report to the temple administration very soon on laying new mesh to check falling boulders.
Huge boulders crashed to the ghat road in October when Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy visited the Durga temple to present silk robes during the Dasara celebrations. The Chief Minister announced Rs 70 crore for the development of the temple. Since then, the officials were contemplating laying new mesh, constructing a drain on hillock to drain the rainwater. Greenery will also be developed on the hillock as part of measures to check falling of rocks and boulders.
