Vijayawada: Krishna district will be covered under Abhayam project in the second phase in January 2021, said the district collector Md Imtiaz on Monday.

The collector participated in videoconference conducted by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on releasing the Abhayam app, which ensure safe and secure travel for women commute by autos and taxis. The app aims at providing emergency help to those in distress.

Imtiaz said Krishna district has 66,000 autos and 12,500 of them are in Vijayawada city. Participating in the videoconference, collector said autos and taxis will be tracked through the GPS and web application. He said the passengers have to download the app from Google Play Store or App store. He said that the women passengers must scan QR code before boarding an auto and the details of the vehicle, drivers can be monitored by the police. He said passengers, who don't have smart phones can also avail the services of Abhayam project by pressing the panic button in the autos or cab.

He said the police and transport departments work in coordination to monitor the movement of the vehicles and the safety of the passengers, who board the auto or the cabs. Joint commissioner of transport department S Venkateswara Rao, deputy transport commissioner M Purendra, police officials attended the videoconference.
