Visakhapatnam: M/s Rain CII (Carbon), a Calcining unit with an investment of Rs 600 crore is ready to start their operations, says A Rama Mohan Reddy, Development Commissioner, Visakhapatnam.

Several units with an investment of about Rs 4,000 crore have been providing direct employment to about 3,200 people in APSEZ Achutapuram.

The total exports from these units touched Rs 3,477 crores till December 3 this year as against Rs 2,815 crores in the corresponding period of last year and recorded a growth of 24 per cent despite severe Covid-19 pandemic.

He also said that the Laurus Labs, a pharma unit in APSEZ, contributed almost to 1/3rd of the exports from APSEZ and achieved a growth in exports of 179 per cent by exporting 12 mi. HCQ tablets to various countries in the world during Covid including the USA, SA, Malawi, Singapore etc. Especially the chemicals, pharmaceuticals and alloys units recorded a positive growth, says Reddy.

Speaking to the media, he also stated that, APSEZ is one among the 61 operational SEZs under VSEZ, and Sh Reddy, who is also holding the additional charge of APSEZ since 1st January this year, has stated that during 2020-21 exports made in VSEZ, were to the tune of Rs 64,399 crore (8689 mi USD) and recorded a growth in exports to the tune of 11.77 per cent so far and provided employment to 3,93,312.
