Washington: White House trade advisor Peter Navarro is at it again. In fresh remarks, President Donald Trump's aide has questioned why Americans were paying for AI services in India. He asserted that platforms such as ChatGPT operate on US soil using American electricity, while serving many users in India and other countries.In an interview with former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon on 'Real America Voice', Navarro flagged the use of American resources being used to support AI services overseas. "Why are Americans paying for AI in India? ChatGPT operates on US soil and uses American electricity, servicing large users of ChatGPT in India and China and elsewhere around the world," he said in remarks which have gone viral.

He also raised concerns over farmland purchases, claiming foreign entities were buying agricultural land at ten times the actual price, while warning that such trends could worsen food inflation in the US.

Navarro's comments come amid ongoing friction between India and the US over Trump's 50 per cent tariffs on New Delhi over continued buying of Russian oil, and a continued deadlock over a trade deal.

This is not the first time Navarro has courted controversy on his remarks targeting India. In the past, he has made remarks questioning India's trade practices and manufacturing policies, often portraying New Delhi as a tough and unfair negotiator.

Navarro had claimed that India was fuelling Russia's war in Ukraine by continuing to import discounted Russian crude oil. He turned up the heat on India's role in the Ukraine war, calling New Delhi a "laundromat" (self-service laundry) for Kremlin".
