Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a series of tweets on Thursday, sharpened his attack on the leadership of the Congress party, reminding it of the imposition of Emergency on the country 45 years ago. Referring to what he perceived as an authoritarian streak in the Congress, Amit Shah said that "as one of India's opposition parties, Congress needs to ask itself:
Why does the Emergency mindset remain?
Why are leaders who don't belong to 1 dynasty unable to speak up?
Why are leaders getting frustrated in Congress?
Else, their disconnect with people will keep widening."

From this tweet it becomes apparent that Amit Shah, like many of the other BJP leaders including party president JP Nadda, will continue to target Rahul Gandhi over the issue of 'dynasty' in the Congress. In another tweet, the Home Minister recalled the Congress Working Committee meeting held recently at which some members wanting to be heard, were ignored. Shah said:
"During the recent CWC meet, senior members and younger members raised a few issues. But, they were shouted down. A party spokesperson was unceremoniously sacked. The sad truth is- leaders are feeling suffocated in Congress.

Amit Shah reminded the Congress of the imposition of the Emergency 45 years ago and attributed it to the 'greed of one family'. He recalled that the country was turned into a prison overnight and all freedoms trampled. Shah remarked:
"On this day, 45 years ago one family's greed for power led to the imposition of the Emergency. Overnight the nation was turned into a prison. The press, courts, free speech...all were trampled over. Atrocities were committed on the poor and downtrodden."
