Jamia University cancels exams amid CAA Protests
Delhi's Jamia University students have been protesting against the CAA since a couple of weeks.
Delhi's Jamia Milia Islamia University has been home to vehement protests since a couple of weeks against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Semester exams have been cancelled in the academic institution owing to the protests.
An official notice from Jamia's Controller of Examinations read, "On the demand of the protesting students, the Vice-Chancellor in consultation with Deans, HoDs and other officials announced that the ongoing semester exams stand cancelled till further notice."
The notice stated that new dates for examinations will be decided after consulting the protesting students.
Students in Jamia have been protesting over the brutal police crackdown that took place in the university campus on December 15. Post the videos and pictures that surfaced showing police hitting JMI students, no FIRs have been filed yet regarding the violence.
The students stated that they are ready to march till a cognizance of their complaint is taken.
The vice-chancellor of the university stated that the National Human Rights Commission has begun an inquiry into the December 15 police action and an NHRC team has visited the university and another will visit on Tuesday to record the statements of the students who were beaten up.
According to students, police personnel laid siege to the campus and those injured were not allowed to get medical attention. Students said windows of the library were smashed and around 50-60 students were inside when policemen surrounded it.
