New Delhi: Handling Holi is a major challenge for the railway administration. Every year, there are crowds of people celebrating Holi with their families in railway stations and trains. Keeping this in mind, Northern Railway has started its preparations. Around nine lakh additional seats are being provided. Special trains are being run since March 1. Till 31 March, a total of 30 trains of Northern Railway and other zonal railways will run. Along with this, 36 additional coaches have been installed in regular trains.

Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway, Deepak Kumar said that 402 trips of special trains announced so far will take place. More than two thousand passengers travel in one round of the train. Similarly, seats are being provided for more than 31 thousand passengers by installing additional coaches. More trains will be announced when needed. Overall, about nine lakh passengers will get the benefit. About 60 per cent of the total special trains announced are for passengers traveling in the east direction and it has been decided to run from New Delhi and Anand Vihar terminals.

Crowd management, passenger safety and passenger amenities are also being fully managed. Platforms of trains will not be changed at the time of congestion. If necessary, it will be informed first. Similarly, there will be an attempt to run special trains from platform number 16 in New Delhi so that passengers do not have to use the foot over bridge to reach the platform.

Additional ticket counters

Additional ticket counters will be opened at New Delhi and Anand Vihar terminals. Retired railway employees will also be deployed as per requirements. The railway station premises will be monitored with CCTV cameras. For the safety of women passengers, women ticket examiners of Railway Protection Force (RPF) will also be deployed. Availability of drinking water and food items is being ensured at railway stations. A special campaign will also run to stop black marketing of tickets.

Special train for Mumbai -Kanpur Railway administration has announced to run special trains for Mumbai and Kanpur. The special train for Mumbai will leave on March 7. Mumbai Central-New Delhi AC Super Fast Special (09005) will depart from Mumbai Central at 4 pm on March 6 and reach New Delhi at 07:55 am the next day.
