Omar's sister moves SC against his detention
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah's sister on Monday moved the Supreme Court challenging his detention under the Public Safety Act.
New Delhi: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah's sister on Monday moved the Supreme Court challenging his detention under the Public Safety Act.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for petitioner Sara Abdullah Pilot, mentioned the matter for urgent listing before a bench headed by Justice N V Ramana.Sibal told the bench that they have filed a habeas corpus petition challenging the detention of Abdullah under the PSA and the matter should be heard this week.
The bench agreed to urgent listing of the matter. In her petition, Pilot has said that there could be no material available to detain a person who has already been detained previously for six months.
The dossier providing grounds for booking Omar under the PSA states that the capacity of the former CM to influence people for any cause can be gauged from the fact that he was able to convince his electorate to come out and vote in huge numbers even during peak militancy and poll boycotts.
The dossier added that Omar has been very vocal against the abolition of Articles 370 and 35 A of the Constitution and also against the bifurcation of erstwhile J&K state.
Mehbooba Mufti's daughter Iltija tweeted that a government dossier had charged her for "a green party flag, being a 'Daddy's girl' and tweets on social media."
The dossier, Iltija Mufti said, refers to her mother as a "hard-headed and scheming person" known for "dangerous and insidious machinations". It also compares her to a "medieval historical figure who usurped power by poisoning her opponents".
