New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met a US Congressional delegation in Delhi where they exchanged their viewpoints on enhancing bilateral relations, and bolstering cooperation on global issues such as climate change, terrorism and reliable supply chains for critical technologies.

The delegation was led by Senator John Cornyn, along with Senator Michael Crapo, Senator Thomas Tuberville, Senator Michael Lee, Congressman Tony Gonzales and Congressman John Kevin Elizey Sr.

The US delegation took note of the "excellent management of the Covid-19 situation in India" despite the challenges of a large and diverse population. Prime Minister Modi touched on the fact that people's participation, based on the democratic ethos of India, played a crucial role in managing the worst pandemic of this century.

"The Prime Minister also appreciated the consistent support and constructive role of the US Congress in deepening the India-US comprehensive global strategic partnership which is anchored in shared democratic values," the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement.

Modi and the US delegation also noted the rising convergence of strategic interests between the two nations, especially with the QUAD taking shape. They also expressed the desire to enhance the cooperation further to promote global peace and stability.

"There was a warm and frank discussion on regional issues of mutual interest, including those related to South Asia and the Indo-Pacific region," the PMO statement said.

It is to be noted here that Senator Cornyn is the co-founder and co-Chair of the Senate caucus on India and Indian-Americans.
