According to statistics released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Naidu’s Google Hangout held on December 20 last year had attracted close to 30 million impressions.“It is the first time that the chief minister interacted with citizens via Google Hangouts on topics like skill development and higher education,” an official of the CMO said.
The total number of views of the programme on Andhra Pradesh State government’s YouTube channel is was 2,00,100. “The top 10 countries that the chief minister’s Google Hangouts programme reached are India, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, the UAE, Australia, Singapore, Germany, Canada, Malaysia and Kuwait,” the official said.
In his earlier nine year long stint as chief minister of the combined Andhra Pradesh between 1995 and 2004, Naidu had earned reputation as a cyber-savvy leader who sought to infuse corporate culture in the governance. “Following the tremendous response to his Google Hangouts programme, the chief minister has decided to chat with netizens once in every three months,” the official said.
Naidu had decided to use the Google Hangout as a medium hereafter to frequently communicate with people so as to gather their views on the functioning of the government. Naidu’s team spread the word about his Hangout on the chief minister’s Twitter account, Facebook page, AP State Government’s Twitter account and also on the Telugu Desam Party’s official Facebook page.
Over 800 questions, suggestions and ideas were also collected for the programme on the social media. “The questions have been forwarded to the departments concerned and the social media team will soon write back to the citizens. Suggestions and ideas too have been taken from citizens and have been sent to the departments concerned,” the CMO official said.
