The Nissan Micra is a highly appreciated urban hatchback due to its smooth engine, reliable mechanics, frugal economics and most of all, it’s convenient CVT gearbox. But the car has been facing some stiff competition lately from the flood of new vehicles which also offer automatic gearboxes and have a greater mass appeal either due to customer reach or due to the cheaper AMT automatic technology. Thus to counter such threats and gain more traction in a very fierce market, Nissan has decided to give the CVT Micra a substantial price cut.

Nissan has revised the retail price of the Micra CVT automatic hatchback, which now starts at Rs 5.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the XL variant, and Rs 6.53 lakhs for the premium XV variant. Nissan claims that this effectively makes the Micra the most affordable CVT automatic hatchback in the country. For comparison, the Honda Jazz S CVT is priced at Rs 7.33 lakhs and the Maruti Baleno automatic retails for Rs 6.86 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).

The CVT variants of the Nissan Micra offer features like Smart Key with Push start stop, steering mounted audio controls, auto air conditioning, speed sensing door lock, rear LED combi-lamp, follow-me home headlamps and 15-inch alloy wheels. Safety features include ABS, dual airbags, EBD and Brake Assist. The car sees no other changes, neither mechanical or cosmetic. Nissan claims that they were able to reduce the prices of the car by improving localisation levels in the production process.

The Nissan Micra is powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine which churns out 76 BHP of power while mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. This powertrain is able to extract an ARAI certified fuel economy of 19.34 km/l. The automatic transmission is the latest fad in the automobile sector in India with almost all the manufacturers now offering some kind of automatic option with all of their vehicles.
