The International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer was observed at Kakaraparti Bhavanarayana (KBN) College in One Town on Friday. The Department of Chemistry and the NSS unit of the college jointly organised a seminar, an awareness rally and competitions for students to mark the occasion.

Speaking at the seminar, Prof R Venkata Nadh of Gitam University, Bangalore, said, “The rapid depletion of ozone layer due to increase in global warming was a matter of grave concern for the mankind. Coordinated efforts should be made to protect the ozone layer by reducing the use of hydrofluorocarbons with high global warming potential.”

College principal V Narayana Rao presided. KBN College president Uppala Sambasiva Rao and others spoke highlighting the need to protect the ozone layer. Later, the principal flagged off an awareness rally on ozone layer protection. Prizes were distributed to winners of various competitions conducted to mark the World Ozone Day.

KBN Junior College principal T Bhagyakumar, academic director J Panduranga Rao, Head of Department of Chemistry (PG) G Krishnaveni, senior faculty member V Subhashini, NSS Unit-II programme officer V Seshagiri Rao and others were present.
