After the testing the chilli powder bags, the officials burned them at Nallapadu Road. It is said that the officials set fire to spurious chilli powder, to ensure that petty traders would not stock them and sell later. The estimated value of the burnt chilli powder was at Rs 15 crore.

Speaking to media persons, Guntur Mirchi Yard chairman Mannava Subba Rao warned the managements of the cold storage units to surrender spurious chilli power stocks to the district administration immediately. “If the officials found the stocks in the raids, they will book cases against the cold storage units. We have taken cooperation of the GMC and fire department officials to burnt stocks of the spurious chilli powder,” he informed.

Food Safety controller Purnachandra Rao said that they would continue raids to check food adulteration. “We have already collected samples of the spurious chilli powder and sent to the labs for conducting tests. We will take stern action against the traders, who store and sell the spurious chilli powder,” he warned.
