FCA launched the Jeep brand in India last year and due to the high prices of their SUVs, they didn’t garner much of an interest from customers. However, hopes are still high because the automaker is readying the Compass SUV for its Indian launch which will take place this year.

The Jeep Compass is going to be a very important product for the company since it is going to be priced rather competitively due to the high level of localisation which it will get. FCA sold just 288 vehicles in the previous month even after massive price cuts on the Punto and Linea.

FCA will go all out with the Jeep Compass and will offer it with a variety of powertrain options. The diesel engine will be a 2.0-litre MultiJet unit producing 170 HP and 350 Nm while the petrol engine will be the 1.4-litre MultiAir engine churning out 140 HP. The diesel engine will get a 9-speed automatic transmission. The compass will also get a 4WD system.

The Jeep Compass will be priced in a way that it will compete with the likes of the Mahindra XUV500 and Hyundai Tucson. Fiat will also consider phasing out the Punto and Linea if sales don’t improve. The Jeep Compass will be made at the company’s Ranjangaon plant in Pune.
