Kakinada: District Collector Kartikeya Mishra on Friday said that necessary steps would be taken to develop Kakinada and Rajamahendravaram as model cities in traffic management.

While speaking in the District Road Safety Committee meeting that was held at the Collectorate here, Mishra said that regulating the traffic was easy with the installation of traffic islands, traffic signals, signage indicators, zebra lines, and ‘May I Help You’ centers to guide the public.

He also suggested the municipal commissioners of two cities to collaborate with the police and hold meetings with the transport and other departments to sort out traffic problems and ensure functioning of traffic signals. He further suggested them to raise awareness of wearing helmets.

He directed the officials to keep banners at petrol bunks indicating ‘No helmet –no petrol’ concept. Speaking on the occasion, DTC in-charge, Siri Anand said that the state government had allocated Rs 10 crore safety fund for the state and necessary proposals were made in the district with an estimated cost of Rs 87 lakh to implement safety measures.

The Collector directed the Joint Collector to verify the proposals before submitting them to the government in connection with this. ITDA PO Abshikta Kishore said that they have submitted proposals for a retaining wall on Maredumilli -Bhadrachalam road.

JC Mallikarjuna, DSP Bharat Mataji, Mining AD KSV Prasad and other officials participated in the meeting.
