Nellore dist wins inter-district football tourney
Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district won the senior inter-district football championship by beating the host, Krishna district, in the finals held at Lakireddy Hanimi Reddy-District Sports Authority (DSA) sports training center, Mylavaram, Krishna district on Thursday.
Vijayawada: Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district won the senior inter-district football championship by beating the host, Krishna district, in the finals held at Lakireddy Hanimi Reddy-District Sports Authority (DSA) sports training center, Mylavaram, Krishna district on Thursday.
Krishna District Football Association (KDFA) conducted the three-day league cum knockout senior inter-district championship at the Mylavaram stadium.
In the final match held on Thursday, the Nellore team beat Krishna by 3-1 goals and lifted the senior championship. Nellore player G C Saicharan scored one goal and his team led the match by 1-0 in half time. Later, Krishna team scored one goal. In the second half, Sudhakar Reddy scored goal and increased the lead to 2-1. In the last five minutes, Sudhakar Reddy struck the second goal and helped the team win the championship.
Earlier, in the semi-final match, Nellore defeated Chittoor with 2-0 goals and entered the finals. In the second semi-final match, the Krishna district team defeated East Godavari in a thrilling match, which ended in a tiebreaker. In the stipulated time, the both the Krishna and East Godavari teams had failed to score goals. In the tiebreak Krishna beat EG by 4-3 and entered the finals.
Results:Final match: SPS Nellore beat Krishna by 3-1 goals
Semi final match: Krishna beat East Godavari 4-3 (tiebreaker), SPS Nellore defeated Chittoor by 2-0 goals.
