Eluru: Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan has said the state government has been implementing several welfare schemes for the development of women and children in the state.

Andhra Pradesh BC Welfare secretary, B Udayalakshmi also participated in the ‘Samoohika Seemantham’ and ‘Anna Prasana’ programmes organised by the Women and Child Welfare Department at Chepala Thumu Centre in the 37th division on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) have already taken up the distribution of nutritious food to the women and children. “Through Anganwadi centres, the pregnant women and postpartum are getting free meals under Amrita Hastam scheme.”

The BC Welfare secretary said that the Government had allotted Rs 1,750 crore in the budget for women development and child welfare. It had introduced the Anna Amrita Hastam, Balamritam, Sabala, Gorumuddalu and mid-day meal schemes for mother and child protection.

The Mayor and the BC Welfare secretary conducted Srimanthalu for the pregnant women. Eluru MLA Badeti Buji, MLC Ramu Surya Rao, Corporator Bhimavarapu Hemasundari and Deputy Mayor Nayudu Pothuraju participated in the programme.
