‘Govt keen on water conservation’
“Water is the lifeline for all life forms on earth. Recognising this, the state government is giving utmost importance to water conservation programmes,” said the secretary of Prakasam Engineering College and ZPTC, Kancharla Srikanth Chowdary in the Janmabhoomi Maa Vuru programme, held in Kammavari Palem near Kandukur on Sunday.

Recognising this, the state government is giving utmost importance to water conservation programmes,” said the secretary of Prakasam Engineering College and ZPTC, Kancharla Srikanth Chowdary in the Janmabhoomi Maa Vuru programme, held in Kammavari Palem near Kandukur on Sunday.
He said that the previous rulers of the state never gave a thought on water conservation programmes and rainwater harvesting. “But the Chandrababu Naidu government is trying to reroute the water sources to wet the dry lands,” he stressed. He said that about 1500 TMC of water from 40 plus streams and rivers in the state go to waste as they ultimately join the ocean.
By linking rivers, the government was saving about 150 TMC of water through 7 projects, giving water to 15 lakh acres and was making efforts to bring another 14 lakh acres into cultivation. He also explained that with the water conservation techniques encouraged by the government, the ground water levels increased and about 3.65 lakh acres got permanent water sources.
