Police seize 700 cockfight knives
The Ongole police seized about 700 cockfight knives from a man during a raid here on Wednesday. Acting on a tip off, the Ongole II Town police SI Venkateswara Rao and his staff raided the house of Sd Khadir in Islampet 2nd line and found 700 knives from his procession.

The Ongole SP, Bhusarapu Satya Yesubabu ordered the local police to form special teams with the SI, Tahsildar and animal welfare department staff to inspect places of possible cockfights taking place and implement orders of the High Court. He announced that the police would make responsible the owner of the places hosting cockfights for the violation.
He said that Section 144 CRPC would be in force in the district during the Sankranti festival. “A constant vigil would be put on people with a history of involving in cockfights and betting and they would be bound over if necessary,” said the official.
