Glued IOL surgery performed

Guntur: Dr Agarwal's Eye Hospital has successfully performed a first of its kind procedure called ‘Glued IOL’ in Guntur on Wednesday. Glued IOL is an innovative technique for fixing the lenses inside the eye.

Phaco surgeon Meghana Koorapati, peadiatric ophthalmology and squint specialist operated the first case of Glued IOL here. On examination, the patient, Surya Chandra Rao had a lens with severely progressed cataract and glaucoma. Glued IOL procedure was planned since the capsular bag of the lens in this patient was too fragile to hold the lens for the long term.

This was a surgery in which the intraocular lens was glued to the eye wall. Dr Meghana Koorapati said, “Post surgery, the patient can see everything and carry on his daily activities in an efficient manner without any trouble. This is the first time a Glued IOL which is a special technique for fixing the lenses inside the eye was done at Guntur.”
