Anantapuramu: On the 34th day here on Tuesday, the Samaikyandhra movement reached the peak in the district.
A sea of humanity was witnessed at the Clock Tower in the town for the Ananta Jana Garjana organized under the aegis of the Samaikyandhra-Joint Action Committee (S-JAC). People in thousands gathered on the streets to register their protest against bifurcation of the State.
All the main roads leading to the Clock Tower from the Saptagiri Circle were overcrowded with agitators. Women, children, young and old participated in the agitation enthusiastically. Slogans against bifurcation and for a united State rent the air. Employees, agricultural labourers, school children, college students, teachers and traders, trade union leaders took part in the Garjana. Students of Sri Krishna Deva Raya University sang songs in favour of Samaikyandhra and eulogizing the Telugu language and held the milling crowds in raptures.
They tried to explain the disadvantages involved in bifurcating the State through cultural programmes and songs. The song Maa Telugu Talliki mallepoodanda rent the air. District Joint Action Committee chairman and District Revenue Officer Hema Sagar Rao, district APNGOs President Devaraj, Secretary Jayaramappa, JAC convener Vishwanath Reddy, co-convener Thimmappa and others were present on the occasion. They garlanded the statue of Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu and raised slogans in favour of Samaikyandhra. In the end, they took a pledge that they would strive to keep the State united.
