Hyderabad: An erudite scholar, an able bureaucrat-turned-politician and a well-informed speaker on any subject, former Governor V S Ramadevi (79) died at her residence in Bangalore on Wednesday afternoon following a heart attack. She is survived by her only son Rakesh. She had been residing with him during her retired life.
Ramadevi served as the only woman Chief Election Commissioner from November 26 to December 1990. She was the first woman Governor of Karnataka (from December 2, 1999 to May 22, 2002) and of Himachal Pradesh (July 26, 1997 to December 1, 1999). Continued on P4
