Tirumala (Tirupati): Nearly 700 Scheduled Tribes from the Araku region in Visakhaptanam district visited Lord Venkateshwara temple at Tirumala on Wednesday. They were on a visit to Tirupati on a directive from Swami Swaroopananda Saraswati, head of the Sharada peetham. They reached Tirumala on foot from Alipiri footpath way.

They were received by the officials of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) who escorted them through the Vykuntham Q complex and provided them with a free darshan. Later, they were taken to the Vengamamba Nityannadaana satram where they were given prasadam and food.

They were also presented with various books on Lord Venkateshwara and the history of the temple. A religious discourse was also organized at the Asthana mandapam. Former secretary of the Dharma Prachara Parishad P Chenchu Subbaiah explained the basic tenets of Hinduism and Sanatana Dharma to the tribals. They were also taught the principles of Bhaktiyoga. The tribals expressed their happiness for visiting Tirupati.
