Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Monday undertook an aerial survey of rain-hit areas in Prakasam, Guntur and Krishna districts and interacted with some of the victims during stopovers. Later, he held review meetings with officials of the affected districts.
He held a review meeting with officials at Parchuru in Prakasam district and also at Bapatla in Guntur district. He asked the officials to restore road connectivity on priority basis, besides improving care for the victims at rehabilitation camps. He directed the administration to distribute 10 kg rice to those whose houses had been marooned for five days. In the case of families whose homes had been under water for 10 days, they would 20 kg rice each. He also ordered a cash relief of Rs 2,500 to each of the affected families to enable them to buy clothes and utensils. Kiran Kumar Reddy asked the officials to complete the assessment of losses at the earliest and send the reports to the State government. He wanted them to enumerate the loss of houses and crops separately. He promised to give maximum benefits to victims and said that he would obtain more funds from the central government to rehabilitate the victims and pay compensation for their crop losses.
The Chief Minister also promised to release funds for repairs and reconstruction of the drains and causeways in Prakasam district. Local legislator and former Minister Daggubati Venkateswara Rao urged the Chief Minister to initiate steps for finding a permanent solution to the floods threat in Parchuru and Chirala areas of the district.
The Chief Minister later visited Chirala and Vodarevu where hundreds of weavers had lost their looms and material as their houses were submerged in the floods. Union Minister Panabaka Lakshmi, Minister M Maheedhar Reddy, Chirala MLA Amanchi Krishna Mohan, District Collector GSRKR Vijayakumar and others were present.
The Chief Minister then proceed to Guntur district in a chopper. He visited Jillellamudi and other villages under Bapatla mandal and interacted with the victims.
The Chief Minister also held a review meeting with the officials of Krishna district at the Gannavaram airport.
Minister for Secondary Education K P Saradhi, Krishna District Collector M Raghunandana Rao and others briefed him on the loss due to the rains.
