Although the rains have subsided in most areas since Sunday noon, the fury of the torrential downpour in the last six days continues to affect people in the district.
People in low-lying areas of Anakapalli and Munagapaka mandals, including Kondakarla, Haripalem, Jagannadhapuram, Timmarajupet, Devinagar, NGOs Colony and Sarada Bridge Area, are facing hardships with all approach roads submerged. Small culverts and streams in interior areas are still overflowing.
Residents of Lingarajupalem, Karrivanipalem, Venkatapuram, Pitlapalem, Bangarammapalem villages of S Rayavaram mandal and Weavers’ Colony and Godicherla in Nakkapalli mandal still have to bear inundation and submergence of roads and canals. People complained that they were not getting any help from the Government. Houses and paddy crop in remote areas like Chuchukonda and Aripaka are still under water.
In Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts, which were battered by heavy rains in the last six days, there was some respite on Monday. This is significant because officials had warned of submergence of several areas in view of heavy inflows into the already flooded Nagavali and Vamsadhara rivers.
In Vizianagaram district too, there was respite from rain for residents. However, farmers and traders suffered heavy losses during the past six days.
